On April 29, 2013, The European Institute held a dinner hosted by His Excellency Manuel Sager, Ambassador of Switzerland to the United States, to celebrate a year-long partnership that the Institute has formed with the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe to examine the future of European-American relations through the perspective of major policymakers and practitioners from both sides of the Atlantic. Both Ambassador Sager and His Excellency Michael Collins, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States spoke about the importance of the transatlantic relationship, particularly the powerful and essential trade ties between Europe and the United States and the prospects for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.
On April 19, 2013, The European Institute awarded The Honorable Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and former President of the Eurogroup the Institute's Transatlantic Leadership Award in recognition of his unique and lasting contributions to the European Project and European-American Relations.
On April 18, 2013, The European Institute held a discussion about prospects and challenges of Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union with Rimantas Šadžius, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania. Minister Šadžius addressed the prospects of Lithuania’s entry into the Eurozone, the formation of the European Banking Union, and the importance of reaching agreement on the EU’s Multi-Annual Financial Framework. Oliver Moss, Director of Global Government Division at Bank of America, moderated the lively discussion and Q&A session that followed the speech. This event was generously hosted by Bank of America.
On April 11, 2013, the European Institute in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland and the European Commission organized a seminar focused on the opportunities in health research in Europe. The plenary session of this day-long event featured His Excellency Michael Collins, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States and His Excellency João Vale de Almeida, Ambassador of the European Union to the United States. Both Ambassadors stressed the importance of research, especially in Europe, and also touched upon opportunities for transatlantic scientific cooperation. Joelle Attinger, President of the European Institute, offered the welcoming remarks and James Gavigan, Head of the Science & Technology Section at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States moderated the event.
On April 9, 2013, The European Institute, in cooperation with the Conseillers du Commerce Extérieur (CCE), welcomed Hiddo Houben, Minister-Counselor and Head of the Trade Section at the Delegation of the European Union, for a discussion about the prospects for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Michael Smart, Vice President at Rock Creek Global Advisors LLC, moderated the lively discussion that followed.
